In yet another tragic incident, gunmen have reportedly launched a deadly attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the loss of 17 lives. The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday in the Heipang community of the LGA. Julius Pam, a grieving parent in the community, confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing that his own brother, along with his wife and children, were among the victims.
While the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, was unavailable for immediate comment, sources within the command revealed that security personnel have been deployed to the affected community to restore calm and investigate the incident.
In a bid to enhance public safety and improve communication between citizens and the government, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has inaugurated a Security and Information Centre. The initiative, established by the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency, aims to bridge the communication gap between the general public and the government.
The centre employs basic technology to establish a toll-free hotline, accessible via the phone number 080 0000 5555, which allows citizens to share security-related information without incurring charges. Governor Mutfwang highlighted that the state government will cover the cost of all incoming calls on behalf of citizens, ensuring that information can be shared freely and confidentially.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the operational readiness of the centre, which operates around the clock. He encouraged citizens to utilize the facility to report security concerns and other developmental matters within the state. The governor assured the public that all information shared would be treated with the utmost confidentiality and that the centre’s swift response mechanism would help address issues promptly and effectively.
