The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly expressed regret over his past appeal to former Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Mr Felix Obuah, and other governorship aspirants to step down in favor of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking at a thanksgiving service organized by Obuah in Omoku, Wike earnestly begged the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area for forgiveness, acknowledging his failure to support their son’s gubernatorial ambition to succeed him.
Wike, a former governor, hinted that his team has fulfilled its part of the peace accord initiated by President Bola Tinubu and endorsed by all parties involved in the state’s political saga. Despite Obuah’s past support, Wike acknowledged denying him the desired opportunity and expressed gratitude for Obuah’s generous and forgiving heart.
Addressing the people of ONELGA at the open thanksgiving service, Wike highlighted the qualities of leadership, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and rectifying wrong decisions. He recounted his relationship with Obuah dating back to 2004 when Obuah became the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government during Wike’s second tenure. Wike praised Obuah as a man blessed by God, always contributing to the community in gratitude for divine favor.
Wike apologized to ONELGA for the decision that caused pain and hurt, particularly to Obuah. He expressed remorse for any mistakes made and urged forgiveness, acknowledging that human judgment may not always be right. Wike promised to learn from the experience and expressed hope for another opportunity in the future.
Reflecting on his own experience during and after his tenure as governor, Wike shared that he supported his successor but regretted inheriting nothing from his predecessor. The minister’s candid admission and plea for forgiveness mark a significant public acknowledgment of past misjudgments and a call for unity and reconciliation within the political landscape of Rivers State.
