Orji Kalu, the chief whip of the Ninth Senate, firmly stated that he would not relinquish his position in the Senate Presidency race for anyone.
In addition, Kalu revealed that he was engaged in discussions with Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara and one of the contenders for the Senate Presidency, regarding potential collaboration and partnerships.
The preferred candidates for the positions of Senate President and Deputy by the All Progressive Party’s National Working Committee were Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau, respectively.
Emphasizing his stance, Senator Kalu declared, “I won’t step down for anybody. We are in discussions with Governor Yari. Our group and his group are engaged in intimate conversations and exploring partnerships. We are determined to ensure that no single zone can exclusively produce the Senate presidency. As I have consistently maintained, no zone should have the monopoly on producing the President of Nigeria.”
He added, “The sponsors will come together to decide what direction this partnership will be. I’ll be very happy to reveal what the sponsors will say. Two of us are thinking of the integrity of the Senate and support President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima. If you are thinking that what happened during Saraki’s time, it will never happen again.”
