In response to rumors of the death of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the state government issued a statement yesterday urging the public to disregard such false information.
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, affirmed that the governor is alive and actively attending to state matters, occasionally delegating responsibilities when necessary.
The clarification was deemed necessary due to the tension created by the rumor within the state and across the country. Ademola-Olateju emphasized, “We enjoin the public to ignore the rumor. Aketi is very much alive.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for Governor Akeredolu’s resignation and suggested that he hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In a statement, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, criticized the governor’s management team for their perceived lack of transparency and called for them to disclose the governor’s whereabouts to ease concerns in the state. The PDP expressed concern over the governor’s absence from national events and the subsequent speculation surrounding his health.
The party stressed that while they pray for the governor’s quick recovery, the state deserves to be informed about his health status. They demanded transparency and urged Akeredolu’s handlers not to play politics with his health, suggesting that if he is no longer fit to govern, he should resign.
The PDP, along with millions of people in Ondo State, awaits clarification regarding the governor’s condition and hopes for his speedy recovery, while emphasizing the importance of open communication to avoid unnecessary anxiety and uncertainty in the state.
