During a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi State, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections, expressed his perspective on President Bola Tinubu’s government, describing it as temporary. Atiku emphasized his determination to reclaim what he alleges to be his stolen mandate through legal means.
Addressing the elected officials of the party, Atiku urged members of the PDP in the National Assembly not to become mere “rubber stamp members” but to serve as a strong opposition force. He acknowledged that, based on the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and considering the ongoing electoral challenges in court, the PDP’s elected members are not currently the majority in the National Assembly.
Therefore, Atiku advised them to prepare themselves to function as an effective and constructive opposition, while also being ready for the potential roles they may assume as the majority party once the legal cases are resolved. In essence, he envisioned the PDP as a “Government in-waiting,” awaiting the outcome of the court proceedings.
