The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a warning to the Federal Government and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding any plans to subject their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to ear surgery while in custody.
In a statement by IPOB’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, on Sunday, it was alleged that the proposed surgery was a ploy to eliminate Kanu.
Powerful stated, “IPOB vehemently rejects any form of surgery on our leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been unlawfully and unconstitutionally held in the DSS dungeon for two years without any charges. We insist that he should be released to his personal physicians who are capable of performing the necessary ear surgery.”
He further drew the attention of IPOB members, freedom advocates, and Biafra supporters to what he described as a dangerous plot to harm Nnamdi Kanu through the alleged ear surgery conducted by the DSS medical team.
Powerful added, “It is evident that the DSS intends to eliminate our leader through this ill-conceived ear surgery, which is why they have denied Nnamdi Kanu access to his personal and trusted doctors.”
Consequently, IPOB rejected any surgery sponsored by the DSS or the Nigerian government while Kanu remained unlawfully detained in solitary confinement.
While acknowledging the urgent need for Nnamdi Kanu’s ear surgery due to the injuries inflicted on him during his alleged kidnapping and torture in Kenya, IPOB insisted that such a procedure should not take place while he remains in DSS custody. The group raised concerns about potential medical complications that may arise during or after the surgery if it were to be conducted in the detention facility.
IPOB demanded the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu in accordance with court orders or his release on medical grounds to ensure proper attention to his health.
