The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of Ejikeme Mmesoma from writing its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for a period of three years. The decision was made due to the alleged forgery of her 2023 result. Sunday Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol at JAMB, released a statement confirming the suspension.
JAMB had initially raised concerns about Miss Ejikeme’s result, stating that it was forged. The board clarified that it had stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME due to candidates falsifying them. JAMB reassured the public that its system had not been tampered with or compromised. The candidate in question had allegedly falsified a copy of a result slip belonging to another candidate named ‘Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle’, who had taken the UTME in 2021 and scored 138.
To support its claim, JAMB urged the public to scan the QR code on the result slip, which would reveal the actual owner of the result before it was altered. The board emphasized that the QR code contains the UTME result of each candidate and that the information on the result sheet is derived from this code.
JAMB also highlighted that it had stopped issuing Notification of Result slips and, since 2022, has been providing actual UTME RESULT Slips with the photograph of each candidate. The board expressed concern over the fact that Miss Ejikeme Mmesoma was the only candidate among those who took the 2023 UTME who presented an outdated ‘Notification of Result.’
JAMB stated that it was not alarmed by this incident, as similar fraudulent claims have been made in the past. The case has been handed over to relevant security agencies for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible. JAMB reiterated its willingness to undergo scrutiny and invited the candidate, her parents/guardians, and her legal team to participate in an open public session involving various national public institutions and security agencies.
The board also highlighted the involvement of nefarious elements attempting to manipulate the situation, urging them to reconsider their actions as the truth would eventually come to light. JAMB emphasized its commitment to transparency and stated that it would be vindicated in the end.
In light of the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, JAMB has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and barred her from taking any of the board’s examinations for the next three years. The management of JAMB urged the public to critically examine the issue and avoid spreading fake news.
