Former Super Eagles star, John Ogu, has issued what appears to be a warning to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the upcoming 2023 African Footballer of the Year Awards.
The footballing community in Nigeria continues to voice its support for Victor Osimhen’s candidacy for the prestigious award among the list of nominees.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is one of the 30 nominees for the 2023 African Player of the Year award, sharing the list with other top players like Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Riyad Mahrez.
John Ogu, a former Super Eagles midfielder, used social media to convey a message to the award organizers, expressing his belief that Osimhen has exhibited outstanding performance, making him a deserving recipient of the accolade among the other nominees.
In a tweet, Ogu wrote, “Dear [CAF], I’m sure y’all saw the whole Ballon d’Or setting last night. This is exactly how we want such an award to be delivered and well organized for our star boy [Osimhen] as the best player in Africa. Thank you in advance.”
Victor Osimhen’s impressive track record includes scoring 26 goals for Napoli last season, helping the club secure its first Serie A title in 33 years. He also emerged as the top goal-scorer during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10 goals, according to TransferMarkt.
The annual CAF awards are scheduled to take place in December and will be held in Marrakech, Morocco. Osimhen’s candidacy has garnered significant support from his home country, Nigeria.
