Renowned Nollywood actress and movie director, Joke Silva, has candidly shared the challenges she faces in managing the health issues of her husband and distinguished actor, Olu Jacobs. In a recent interview with media personality and actress Nancy Isime, Silva revealed that her husband has been battling dementia, a condition that has significantly impacted his well-being.
Describing the emotional journey, Silva expressed that accepting the reality of her husband’s health challenges has been a difficult process. She acknowledged that the man she married 37 years ago is no longer the same due to his ongoing battle with dementia.
“It hasn’t been easy. There was a point of acceptance for me that everything happening is reality. It is like the person I married, 80 per cent of the time, is no longer there,” shared Silva in the interview.
Despite the profound changes in Jacobs’ health, Silva emphasized that he was an incredible father and an amazing husband during the times when he was more himself. She reflected on the strong bond they shared, stating, “He was practically my best friend.”
Silva admitted that her feelings towards her husband have evolved as a result of his health condition. She affirmed, “The husband I knew is no longer there for me. This man that is here is someone I still love, but love in a different way.”
The actress’s candid revelation sheds light on the personal struggles faced by families dealing with health challenges, emphasizing the importance of acceptance and adjusting to new realities in the context of long-term relationships.
