Justice Mary Odili’s advice on avoiding chaos in Nigeria has been misinterpreted, according to her media assistant, Chief Felix Enebeli. The advice, given during a colloquium to mark Chief Joe K. Gadzama’s 25th anniversary as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was meant for all Nigerians and not directed at any political party or person.
Enebeli expressed concern over the skewed interpretation of Justice Odili’s speech on social media, which was distorted to fit biased narratives and political agendas. He clarified that Justice Odili’s speech urged those dissatisfied with the 2023 general elections’ outcomes to pursue legal and lawful avenues for expressing their grievances rather than resorting to actions that could destabilize the nation.
The media assistant emphasized that Justice Odili’s comments did not target any specific election results in any state or region, as the 2023 general elections encompassed various categories, including State Houses of Assembly, Governorship, National Assembly, and Presidential elections.
Enebeli also highlighted the professional backgrounds of lawyers in attendance at the event, such as Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, and Chief J.K. Gadzama SAN, all renowned experts in litigation and electoral disputes. He concluded that Justice Odili’s speech aimed to promote responsible discourse and adherence to legal processes during election-related challenges.
