The Kaduna State Government has responded to the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday night, resulting in the loss of several lives and injuries to others. A meeting was convened, presided over by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, and attended by heads of security agencies, religious and traditional leaders.
During the closed-door meeting, the Nigerian Army provided an explanation for the unfortunate and unintended attack. Major VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding One Division Nigerian Army, clarified that the Army was on a routine mission against terrorists but inadvertently affected members of the community.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Governor conveyed the condolences of the Government and People of Kaduna State to the families who lost their loved ones. She also offered prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls.
Search-and-rescue efforts are currently underway, with dozens of injured victims evacuated to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital by the Government. The meeting was attended by key figures, including the Commissioner of Police, MY Garba, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Abdul Eneche. Religious leaders, led by the Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter of Jam’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Professor Shafi’u Abdullahi, were also present. Alhaji Aminu Idris, the District of Rigasa, where the incident occurred, participated in the meeting, providing local insight into the situation.
As investigations and rescue operations continue, the Kaduna State Government remains committed to addressing the aftermath of the incident and ensuring the well-being of the affected citizens.
