According to the contractor, MOTA-ENGIL NIGERIA, the $2 billion Kano-Maradi railway line that connects Nigeria and Niger Republic will encompass more than 100 bridges and three side camps, among other facilities. The project, expected to be completed within three years, is described as a significant undertaking and a modern railway line.
Mr Nuno Colaco, the logistics manager of MOTA-ENGIL NIGERIA, shared details of the project during an interaction with the media at the Port & Cargo Terminal in Lagos. He highlighted that approximately 100 kilometers of the railway line had already been paved in preparation for the main construction work.
The Kano-Maradi railway spans 400 kilometers, starting from Dutse in Kano, Nigeria, and concluding in Maradi, Niger Republic. MOTA-ENGIL NIGERIA, a Portuguese company, expressed satisfaction at securing such a substantial project two years after entering Nigeria. They emphasized Nigeria’s status as the largest economy in Africa with significant potential.
Mr Adekunle Oloyede, the Customs Controller of Tin Can Island, also commended the scale of the Mota-Engil import, seeing it as a positive indicator of the rebounding Nigerian economy, despite a decrease in cargo throughput at the ports.
