The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has taken swift action by dismissing Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Adamu Kibiya, who was recorded making threats against judges presiding over the governorship elections petition tribunal in the state. In a viral video, Kibiya had warned the judges to choose between their lives and their work during a protest organized by members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Additionally, the governor has approved the dismissal of his Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Aliyu Yusuf Imam, known as ‘Ogan Boye,’ for making unguarded and disrespectful statements against Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, clarified that the governor took these actions because the views expressed by Kibiya and Ogan Boye do not represent the official position of the State Government.
Dantiye emphasized the high esteem in which the Kano State Government holds the judiciary and the government’s respect for justices and all judicial officers. He also stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf deeply respects Vice-President Kashim Shettima and will not tolerate any disrespect towards him or any other Nigerian leader.
The government has issued a directive that, moving forward, no government official should speak on matters outside the purview of their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) without explicit clearance and permission. Unguarded and inflammatory statements will not be condoned, and the Ministry of Information is tasked with ensuring compliance with guidelines provided by regulatory agencies, especially radio stations.
The Kano State Government called on all residents to remain law-abiding and continue their daily activities without hindrance while expressing confidence in the judicial process and justice prevailing at all levels.
This swift response by the governor to dismiss officials responsible for making threats highlights the importance of maintaining respect and decorum in public discourse and interactions with judicial authorities.
