Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has resolved to take his legal battle to the Supreme Court after the Appeal Court in Abuja upheld the tribunal’s ruling that ousted him from office and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election.
In a broadcast on Friday, Governor Yusuf announced his determination to reclaim his mandate and stated that he had instructed his legal team to challenge the Appeal Court ruling at the Supreme Court. This move comes after a series of legal proceedings that culminated in the decision by the Appeal Court to affirm the earlier tribunal ruling.
National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed gratitude for the court’s decision and lauded the judiciary for maintaining good administration of justice amid various distractions throughout the case. Ganduje also acknowledged the victory as a positive outcome for democracy, APC, and the people of Kano State.
Ganduje acknowledged the likelihood of an appeal to the Supreme Court by Governor Yusuf and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP). He affirmed the party’s readiness to face the legal challenge at the highest court, expressing confidence in a favorable outcome.
In response to the situation, Ganduje stated, “There is nothing wrong for them to go to the Supreme Court. We too, we are ready to meet them in Supreme Court. And Insha Allah, we will win at the Supreme Court as well.”
The legal battle in Kano State reflects the intricate dynamics of democracy, with both sides expressing confidence in the judicial process as they prepare for the next phase at the Supreme Court.
