In a midnight operation, the Kano State Hisbah Board has successfully apprehended a truck loaded with over 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages, which were confiscated from smugglers. The Director General of the board, Alhaji Abba Sufi, disclosed this information during an inspection at the board’s headquarters on Wednesday. The truck was seized along Zaria Road on Tuesday night.
Alhaji Abba Sufi praised the proactive efforts of Hisbah personnel in enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against the smuggling of beer and other intoxicating substances into the state through its neighboring borders. Kano State has adopted Sharia, and the Hisbah Board plays a crucial role in upholding and enforcing Islamic laws in the region.
During the inspection, the Director General expressed appreciation for the collaboration between Hisbah personnel and various stakeholders involved in the campaign against beer smuggling. The seizure of the truck, laden with a significant quantity of alcoholic beverages, reflects the commitment of the board to maintaining the state’s adherence to Sharia principles.
Acting Assistant Commander General, Fu’ad Dorayi, who heads the Intelligent Crimes Dispatch Unit of the board, provided additional details, mentioning that the truck driver and two accomplices were also apprehended during the operation. He expressed gratitude for the support received from the Dawakin Kudu Hisbah Command and urged citizens to remain vigilant, reporting any vehicles suspected of carrying prohibited products along specific routes. These routes include Kano/Zaria Road, Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Road, Kano-Katsina Road, Kano-Maiduguri Road, and Kano-Hadejia Road. The Kano State Hisbah Board continues its efforts to curb the illegal transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages within the state in line with its commitment to Sharia law.
