Residents of Yanshanu community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State are living in fear as seven more individuals have come forward claiming that their kidneys were harvested by Mr. Noah Kekere, the embattled operator of Murna Hospital.
In an interview on Friday, the Chairman of the Yanshanu Community Development Association, Alhaji Jamilu Baba, revealed that all individuals who had previously undergone surgical operations at the clinic were urged to undergo tests to assess the state of their kidneys. Shockingly, seven people, both male and female, have reported that only one kidney remains in their bodies after undergoing scans.
Baba stated, “The hospital is called Murna Clinic, owned by one man called Dr. Noah Kekere, popularly known as Dr. Yellow. He has been in this community for over 18 years. The people of this community trusted him and patronized him whenever they were not feeling well.”
He continued, “But to our great surprise, we learned of his involvement in this unfortunate incident that he operated on a woman about seven years ago when she had an appendicitis. Unfortunately, after the operation, the woman was still complaining of stomach pain. Kekere has been managing her and collecting money from the family.”
As news of the organ harvesting scandal spread, the community has been thrown into confusion and fear. Numerous individuals who had been operated on by Kekere in the past are now anxious and have been advised to undergo tests at certified hospitals.
The matter has been reported to the police, and Kekere has been arrested and is under investigation. The police have discovered that Kekere is not a qualified medical doctor, despite presenting himself as one to the community. He holds a BSc and a Master’s degree in Economics and had started nursing school but abandoned the program. Other doctors who assisted him in the initial operation have also been arrested.
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Plateau State has distanced itself from Kekere, confirming that he is not a medical doctor but a quack pretending to be one. The NMA is assisting the police in their investigation.
It was reported that after his arrest, Kekere pretended to be mentally ill and was briefly taken to the psychiatric section of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), but he was discharged after no mental health issues were found.
