In a stern declaration, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has vowed to mete out punishment to members of his cabinet who allegedly betrayed him during the November 11 governorship election. The Governor, visibly angered, made this announcement during a closed-door meeting with stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja.
Accusing some members of his cabinet of betrayal both before and during the election, Governor Bello asserted that those who conspired against him would not go unpunished. He passionately expressed his determination, stating that he would go to the extent of “cutting off” even his fingers if anyone tried to hinder his progress.
The Governor went on to specify that many of his allies betrayed him due to his choice of Usman Ododo as his successor. Ododo emerged victorious in the governorship election, overcoming challenges from Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Muri Ajaka.
Using unprintable words, Bello described some of his so-called allies as individuals who sold him out, expressing his disappointment at their actions. He revealed that these individuals, whom he had supported, turned against him after everything he did for them. The Governor criticized them for collaborating with the opposition, calling them out as leaders who misled the people.
Addressing the alleged threat to subordinates, Bello warned that he would deal severely with any “leaders” who threatened their subordinates. He specifically pointed a finger at a Senator from the state, accusing him of being “wrecked” by his brothers before he revived him from alleged financial bankruptcy. The Governor’s strong words reflect the intensity of the internal strife within the APC in Kogi State.
