Former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced that the contentious issue of Kano emirates, including the dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, will be revisited. The move comes in response to the Supreme Court’s validation of Governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf’s victory in the last year’s election.
Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had previously divided the Kano emirate into five, leading to the dethronement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi. Kwankwaso, speaking in an interview with select radio stations in Kano, expressed the intention to review the actions taken during that period.
Kwankwaso stated, “Honestly, it is one of the things that nobody has sat with me to discuss so far, but I am sure we are going to sit and see how to go about it. Is it going to be allowed, demolished, corrected or whatever? It will be revisited, and what’s supposed to be done will be done.”
After the Supreme Court upheld Governor Yusuf’s victory, calls for the reinstatement of Sanusi intensified. The former Emir, in response to the developments, accused the APC in Kano of attempting to seize power through a court process, emphasizing the acceptance of destiny and God’s decision.
Sanusi remarked, “God is always on the side of the truth. He may give a tyrant a chance or two, but surely that would be short-lived.” As discussions surrounding the fate of the Kano emirates continue, the political landscape in the state remains dynamic and subject to further legal and administrative developments.
