The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of preparing for a possible rerun of the presidential election, anticipating a challenging electoral climate. Abure called on the party’s over 10 million members to remain vigilant and ready to humiliate the APC and its government further if their alleged plot comes to fruition.
During an online meeting with the Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, led by Professor Eddie Oparaoji, Labour Party’s Diaspora Chairman in the United States, Abure shared these remarks. He highlighted the rumors surrounding the government’s plans for a rerun and requested the coalition’s engagement and support should such an event occur. However, he emphasized that their primary goal is the outright declaration of Peter Obi as the President of Nigeria, based on their belief that they won the election.
Abure mentioned that they have presented all their evidence to the court and expressed optimism that the tribunal and, eventually, the Supreme Court would rule in their favor. He stressed the need to build on the successes achieved in changing the political landscape of the country in just nine months and called for a more formidable party that strategically prioritizes the welfare of Nigeria’s underprivileged.
Ambassador Oseloka Obaze, Director of the ObiDatti Presidential Campaign, also addressed the meeting, urging members in the diaspora to view the struggle for reclaiming the Labour Party’s mandate as a collective responsibility that cannot be abandoned. He emphasized the importance of citizens, including those in the diaspora, in building great nations and encouraged them to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
Professor Oparaoji, Chairman of the Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, delivered a speech titled ‘Fostering a Purposeful Diaspora Partnership for a New Nigeria.’ He emphasized the potential of the group, in collaboration with all ObiDatti members in the diaspora, to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s development through advocacy, human rights promotion, capacity building, investment, education, healthcare support, policy advocacy, and diaspora engagement. He highlighted the diaspora community’s diverse network and resources as catalysts for positive change and progress towards Nigeria’s long-term development goals.
