The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fayoade Adegoke, has emphasized that no police officer is authorized to search the phones of Nigerian citizens. He stated that the Police Force has a dedicated cyber section responsible for handling such matters. If a police officer suspects any wrongdoing, the standard procedure is to take the individual to the station for proper investigation and phone search.
Commissioner Adegoke made these remarks during a visit to Melody FM, 107.7FM, located at Iyana-Ipaja. He commended the radio station for its efforts in disseminating information to the public. The CP reassured the public that bail is unrestricted and encouraged citizens to report any corrupt police officers.
He further urged the public to report cases of police misconduct, emphasizing that citizens have the right to be treated with decency by law enforcement officers. Commissioner Adegoke provided his phone number, welcoming direct reports from Lagosians to address any grievances or concerns related to police conduct.
