Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has rewarded Aminat Yusuf, the exceptional law student who achieved a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0, with a sum of N10 million. The award was presented to Yusuf during the 26th convocation ceremony of Lagos State University (LASU) held in the Ojo-Iyana Iba area of Lagos.
In recognition of her outstanding academic performance, Governor Sanwo-Olu personally donated N5 million, while another N5 million was contributed by the Lagos State government. This gesture was a testament to Yusuf’s groundbreaking achievement, which broke a 40-year-old record at LASU.
Yusuf, a student of the Faculty of Law at LASU, emerged as the best graduating student for the 2021/2022 academic session. Her remarkable feat caught the attention of Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Raji, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, who presented her with N2 million and pledged to fully sponsor her through Law School.
Last week, LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had announced that Yusuf would receive a cash prize of N500,000 from the university. Mrs. Olatunji-Bello further revealed that out of the 10,183 graduating students, 282 achieved First Class honors in various fields.
Additionally, it was highlighted that while Aminat Yusuf topped the first-class graduates for the 2021/2022 academic session, Feyisayo Lopez from the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine emerged as the best for the 2020/2021 session with a CGPA of 4.91.
