Dr Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has officially filed an appeal challenging the judgment of the Lagos State Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a statement released by Mr Gbenga Ogunleye, the Head of Media and Communication of Jandorforgovernor Campaign Organization, it was revealed that Adediran filed a comprehensive 34-ground appeal on October 13. The appeal aims to express his dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s verdict and seeks to address what he claims were miscarriages of law in the judgment.
Adediran argues that the tribunal erred in law and reached an incorrect conclusion when it dismissed his petition challenging the qualification of Governor Sanwo-Olu for the March 18 governorship election. The basis of his petition is rooted in the provisions of Section 177(c) and 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution.
Expressing his commitment to upholding constitutional and electoral laws, Adediran stated, “By this action, I reaffirm my commitment to birth a breath of fresh air in governance in Lagos State by ensuring that the provisions of the constitution and the electoral laws regarding the election of a truly qualified governor are upheld.”
The appeal filed by Jandor sets the stage for a legal battle at the Court of Appeal, where he hopes to present his case and seek a reversal of the tribunal’s decision. The outcome of this appeal will significantly impact the political landscape in Lagos State, adding another layer of complexity to the post-election developments in the region.
