The Lagos State Police Command has maintained that it will not conclude its investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, until it receives the autopsy report from the pathologists. The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasized that the command would not engage in guesswork and is awaiting the official report from the autopsy conducted on Mohbad’s body.
This statement comes in response to the demands of the civil society organization, the Take It Back Movement, which urged the police to expedite the investigation and make public its findings. The group expressed concern over the prolonged delay, fearing that it could expose Mohbad’s wife and child to various forms of attacks, including cyberbullying and physical harassment.
Omolola Pedro, Head of the Gender Department at the Take It Back Movement, emphasized the need for the police to protect the rights of the deceased’s family and called for the immediate conclusion of the investigation. The group highlighted the potential risks faced by Mohbad’s wife and child, citing the alleged harassment that Mohbad himself experienced while alive.
In response to these demands, Hundeyin reiterated that the police would not speculate on the circumstances of Mohbad’s death without the official autopsy report. He emphasized the importance of receiving the pathologists’ findings before concluding the investigation.
Mohbad’s death on September 12 sparked controversies, leading the police to establish an investigative team to determine the cause of the singer’s demise. Despite an earlier announcement in September that the autopsy had been concluded, the police clarified in November that they had not yet received the autopsy report from the pathologists.
