Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has commended the state’s achievement of four consecutive years with zero bank robberies, marking the longest period of such security success in the past two decades. The governor made this announcement during the 17th Town Hall Meeting on security, organized by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) at Eko Hotels Suites, Victoria Island.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu credited the remarkable milestone to the relentless efforts in enhancing security and the collaborative work of the police and sister agencies. He highlighted the stabilizing effect on the security landscape in Lagos compared to other parts of the country.
The governor acknowledged the role of LSSTF in consistently funding security agencies’ operations across communities, ensuring a swift response to threats and crimes. He emphasized the state government’s provision of operational vehicles and equipment to enhance the capacity of security operatives.
Governor Sanwo-Olu attributed the achievement to the continuous review of the state’s security architecture and surveillance measures. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by security officers and emphasized the multifaceted challenge of security, pledging to pursue policies and actions that foster the well-being of all Lagosians.
Looking ahead to 2024, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced plans to increase the fleet of patrol vehicles for security agencies by 300 units. This initiative will be carried out in collaboration with local government authorities, demonstrating a commitment to further strengthening security measures in the state.
