The Lagos State Government has officially dissolved its Park and Garages Committee, paving the way for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to take control of coordinating activities across motor parks and garages within the state.
This decision, which took effect on Friday, marks the end of an indefinite suspension that had been placed on the NURTW by the state government a year and a half ago. The suspension had been prompted by internal leadership disputes among NURTW members.
The move to dissolve the LASPG (Lagos State Park and Garages) Committee received the approval of the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It was further confirmed that the Ministry of Transportation was tasked with executing this dissolution and reinstating the NURTW.
The Transport Permanent Secretary commended the executives of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee for their service and expressed hope that the union would maintain peace and adhere to their constitution as they transition back to the NURTW.
During this transition process, formal re-integration into the union occurred at the union headquarters in Lagos, where the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee officially became a part of the NURTW once again.
