Gunmen have abducted the wife and two children of Hon Lawal Ayanshola Soliu, the legislator representing Ipaiye/Malete/Olooru constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, according to reliable sources.
The abduction occurred on Monday evening when armed assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles, reportedly stormed the lawmaker’s residence at approximately 1:00 a.m. The attackers fired shots into the air to intimidate neighbors before abducting the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the abducted family members remain unknown. A source disclosed that one of the kidnappers, in contact with the family, mentioned that he had not yet joined his colleagues in the forest to negotiate their demands.
Attempts to reach Hon Lawal Ayanshola Soliu via telephone on Tuesday were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
The Kwara state police command’s spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident, stating, “Details are still sketchy, but I will get back as soon as we have comprehensive details of the incident.”
The abduction adds to the growing security challenges in various parts of the country, prompting concerns about the safety of citizens and the need for intensified efforts to address the menace of criminal activities.
