In a distressing incident, the mother of Liverpool’s Colombian winger, Luis Díaz, has been rescued after being kidnapped in Colombia. However, the search for his father continues. The kidnapping took place in Barrancas, La Guajira.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Diaz’s mother was successfully rescued in Barrancas in the northern part of the country. He also conveyed that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the father.
The Colombian Attorney General’s Office confirmed that they have been intensely focused on the case, deploying a specialized team of prosecutors, police, and military personnel to find the kidnapped individuals, establish the facts, and identify those responsible.
Reports from local media indicate that Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda were abducted while at a service station in the La Guajira area by armed men on motorcycles.
General William Salamanca, the director of the police, revealed that intelligence agents and other police departments have been mobilized in the area to address the situation. Checkpoints and identity verifications are being conducted in an effort to recover the kidnapped parents of footballer Luis Diaz.
Governor Diala Wilches of La Guajira condemned the kidnapping and appealed for the safe return of the captives, urging the kidnappers to release them immediately.
Liverpool Football Club expressed deep concern about the situation and declared their support for Luis Díaz. The club stated that they are hoping for a safe and swift resolution to the matter, with the welfare of the player being their top priority.
Luis Díaz, a 26-year-old winger who joined Liverpool from Porto last year, has not yet commented on the incident. He has represented the Colombian national team on 43 occasions and is an integral part of Liverpool’s squad, having made 11 appearances this season and scored three goals. Although he did not participate in Liverpool’s recent Europa League victory over Toulouse, he was expected to return for the upcoming Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
