Levi Uzoukwu, the lawyer representing the Labour Party (LP), has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being unprepared to defend its case at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
Uzoukwu made this assertion on Monday following the adjournment of the court’s sitting due to the absence of INEC’s first defence witness.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, the LP lawyer expressed confidence in the strength of their case and their readiness to proceed, contrasting it with INEC’s apparent inconsistencies.
“Based on the contradictions and inconsistencies and what INEC has done, I am sure they are not prepared to defend this case,” Uzoukwu stated.
“I may be proven wrong, but I would like to see them defend this matter so that the public can gain further insight into what happened during this election.”
Reiterating that Nigeria had never witnessed an election like the one held on February 25th, the legal counsel emphasized that it was INEC’s decision whether or not to call witnesses. He further stated that he and his client, the LP, were prepared at all times.
