A yet-to-be-identified 50-year-old man was reportedly burnt to death on Sunday after fire razed a 25-room building in Lagos State.
It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred at the building located at 48, Jagunmolu Street, Bariga area of the state, on October 2, 2022.
The man was said to have been trapped in the building when the fire broke out on the 25-room-property around 3 am, affecting 10 of the rooms.
Confirming the incident, the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call around 3:19 am and firemen were immediately dispatched to the location.
She said they also received a fire call around 12:31 am, at 19, Apata Street, Shomolu, stressing that negligence led to both incidents.
In her words: “The Shomolu incident involved four rooms and three shops in a bungalow building consisting of eight rooms and four shops while the Bariga fire involved 10 rooms in a bungalow building consisting of 25 rooms and 18 shops.
“Preliminary investigation revealed negligence as the undercurrent cause of both fires which led to electrical surge as reported shock was witnessed at Shomolu before the arrival of the firefighters”
