Oluwatoyin Taiwo, Justice of the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos, has sentenced a man, Yusuf Olawale Adetokunbo, to six months imprisonment for having a document containing false pretense.
The judge sentenced him after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
EFCC had alleged that Adetokunbo, sometime in April 2022, with the intent to defraud, had in his possession a bundle of fraudulent chats containing pretense in his Google voice app and his email.
The anti-graft said his offense was contrary to section 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Following his plea of guilty, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Nnaemeka Omenwa, urged the court to convict him accordingly.
In his mercy plea, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Korede Oyedele, told the court that the defendant is a first-time offender, who was remorseful for his actions and had been cooperative with the agency since his arrest in April 29, 2022.
He prayed to the court to temper justice with mercy as the convict had a whole life ahead of him. While sentencing the convict, Justice Taiwo ordered that the sum of N200,000.00, one iPhone X and one iPhone 6plus, items recovered from him be forfeited to the Federal Government. The judge also gave the convict a fine option of N150,000.00.
