The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Samuel Adeniyi, a man accused of killing his girlfriend with a sledgehammer. The murder reportedly took place in an undisclosed area of Lagos.
Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Police Officers Mess in Ikeja, Lagos. Owohunwa stated that Adeniyi had justified the killing by claiming he suspected his girlfriend might leave him for someone else.
He said, “One Samuel Adeniyi got consumed by emotions and smashed the head of his girlfriend, killing her. He (Adeniyi) said he suspected that the girl may leave him, and perhaps for that reason, he killed her and ran away. We have succeeded in arresting him and recovering the sledgehammer that he used, and we will bring him to justice.”
The police commissioner also provided updates on the progress of Operation Flush, a month-long initiative aimed at enhancing public security in Lagos State. During the operation, the police raided criminal hideouts and apprehended individuals suspected of involvement in various crimes, including cultism and armed robbery.
Owohunwa highlighted the significant achievements of Operation Flush, including the recovery of 18 firearms, including two AK-47 rifles, as well as the apprehension of suspects connected to the killing of a policeman in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
Additionally, the police recovered two locally fabricated toy guns used in robberies, 15 cartridges, four expended cartridges, six matches, 34 bags of suspected Indian hemp (cannabis), two bags containing counterfeit US dollars and Pounds Sterling notes, and six kegs of fake Total engine oil.
The police commissioner noted that the successful operations underscored the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to ensuring public safety and combating criminal activities in the state.
