Mr. Samuel Soyemi has detailed a harrowing incident where men claiming to be police officers from Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, allegedly invaded his home, abducted him, and robbed him of valuables, including money. Soyemi recounted the incident as a combination of abduction and armed robbery, expressing distress over the alleged misconduct by the individuals who accused him of being a ritualist and cultist.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11 p.m. on October 10, when armed men invaded Soyemi’s house in the Osiele area of Abeokuta, Ogun State. Soyemi claimed that the alleged police officers accused him of serious offenses without basis.
According to Soyemi, the armed men drove him, his wife, and other family members to the premises of the Ifo Police Station, where they demanded a payment of N10 million for their release. Without formal documentation, the alleged police impostors reportedly succeeded in transferring N1,025,000 from Soyemi’s bank account into an Opay account.
Soyemi, who emphasized the impact of the incident on his family, called for justice, stating, “Everything they took from me is almost N3m, including phones and jewellery. I need justice.” He expressed frustration with the lack of action after reporting the matter to Zone 2.
His lawyer, Kayode Aderemi, confirmed that a petition had been written to the office of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The petition detailed the alleged invasion, extortion, and robbery, urging an investigation into the conduct of the individuals who identified themselves as police officers.
The lawyer appealed for the recovery of Soyemi’s money and other items taken during the incident. Aderemi expressed concerns about the safety of the Soyemi family, fearing a potential return by the alleged police impostors.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, acknowledged the petition and assured that every petition is treated objectively, especially when it involves unprofessionalism and corruption. He advised the complainant to follow up on the case through police complaint platforms.
The alleged incident raises questions about the conduct of law enforcement officers and underscores the importance of a thorough investigation to determine the facts and hold accountable any individuals involved in misconduct.
