The Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, has praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its efforts in expanding the scope of the Okrika-Borokiri Road with three bridges, connecting several communities to Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
During a meeting with the Management and Staff of the NDDC at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, Minister Momoh emphasized the importance of delivering viable projects and commended the Rivers State Government for expressing interest in partnering with the Commission on the project.
Minister Momoh stated, “I am delighted to be at NDDC today. This is my first official visit outside Abuja, and I am starting from the Rivers State capital.” He expressed disappointment with the state of the East-West Road, promising to raise the issue with the President. He also indicated his confidence that President Bola Tinubu would address the matter and possibly transfer the East-West Road project to the Ministry.
He highlighted the change in the ministry’s name from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development as a sign of a new focus on sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. He called for continuous support for the Federal Government’s goals in developing the region.
Minister Momoh congratulated Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for returning to the NDDC Board and emphasized the importance of good leadership and loyal staff for achieving performance. He encouraged the NDDC to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister also visited Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House, where they discussed potential partnerships, particularly concerning the Borikiri-Okrika Road project, which would complete the Port Harcourt Ring Road.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Acting Managing Director of NDDC, expressed his delight over the Minister’s visit, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to supporting the Ministry and the Federal Government in the sustainable development of the Niger Delta region.
Dr. Ogbuku visited the Okrika-Borokiri Bridge project earlier in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, emphasizing the project’s benefits in connecting communities to Port Harcourt, reducing traffic congestion, and travel time from Okrika to Port Harcourt.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, also praised the NDDC for executing the Borokiri-Okirika Road and Bridge project.
