The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that all sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway will be completed within 24 months. The Minister made this declaration during an inspection of the Abuja-Kaduna section of the highway on Friday.
Accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Wale Edun, Umahi revealed that the government established a new timeline in agreement with the contractor, Julius Berger Construction Company. The original contract, awarded by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government in 2018, had a completion period of 36 months, a target that was not met.
Umahi attributed the delay to a lack of funds but assured the public of the government’s commitment to finishing the road within the new stipulated timeframe. He disclosed that Julius Berger Construction Company had committed to completing 15 kilometers daily to meet the revised deadline.
