The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Nigerian Army to take decisive action against individuals who are allegedly inciting the military to overthrow the legitimate administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. MURIC’s call comes in response to recent revelations that certain factions have been attempting to goad the army into staging a coup, citing concerns over soldiers’ welfare and the recent coup in Niger as justification.
In a statement issued by Prof Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, the organization expressed its appreciation for the Nigerian Army’s refusal to yield to the instigations of coup plotters. MURIC also commended the army for standing firm against such insidious efforts, emphasizing the importance of maintaining democratic norms and respecting the rule of law.
Prof Akintola emphasized the potential consequences of military rule, asserting that it could lead to the loss of Nigerians’ freedom and dehumanization. He urged the Nigerian Army to take immediate action to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those individuals who are actively inciting the military to undermine the legitimate government.
The call by MURIC reflects a broader concern for national stability and the preservation of democratic governance in Nigeria. As the Nigerian Army continues to uphold its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s democratic institutions, the issue of coup instigation remains a critical challenge that requires swift and resolute action to address.
