In a unified response to the assault on Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, the NLC and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a directive for their members to initiate a nationwide strike, commencing from midnight on Tuesday, 14th November.
The Organised Labour, comprising affiliate unions from both NLC and TUC, has instructed its members to implement the resolutions reached during the joint National Executive Council meeting of the two labour centres.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, TUC President Festus Osifo announced that the strike action would persist until “governments at all levels wake up to their responsibility.” The decision underscores the labour unions’ determination to address the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero and to press for a swift and adequate response from authorities.
As tensions escalate, the Organised Labour’s call for a nationwide strike signals a collective stand against the perceived negligence of governments at various levels, emphasizing the need for urgent attention to the security and well-being of workers. The unions are poised to leverage the strike as a potent tool to ensure that the concerns of their members are addressed and that justice is served in the case of the assault on their leader.
