The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong warning, declaring that a nationwide strike will commence from next Wednesday if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) does not revert to the previous price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to allow for negotiations with the government.
The announcement comes in the wake of widespread fuel shortages across the country following President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration speech, where he proclaimed the removal of fuel subsidy.
Following an emergency meeting of the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja, NLC President Joe Ajaero conveyed the union’s decision. He emphasized that the government, specifically the NNPC, has until Wednesday of the following week to reinstate the old price of petrol.
Ajaero further stated that if the Federal Government fails to meet the ultimatum, it will trigger an indefinite protest that will span across the nation. The NLC is resolute in its stance, ready to take action in defense of the rights and welfare of Nigerian workers.
