The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has expressed admiration for the late Chief Williams Abegunde Fagbegi, a centenarian and patriarch of the Abegunde family in Akure, Ondo State. Mr. Ebie, speaking at the funeral service held at the Cathedral Church of Saint David, Ijomu, Akure, highlighted Chief Fagbegi’s trailblazing contributions to his community and various achievements across different fields.
During the service, Mr. Ebie conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the NDDC Board and Management to the family of the departed, extending sympathy to the NDDC Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde. Recognizing the impact of Pa Williams’ life beyond his immediate family, Mr. Ebie emphasized the centenarian’s significant contributions to diverse aspects of society.
Mr. Ebie encouraged the grieving family to take solace in the fact that their patriarch led a meaningful and fulfilled life. He remarked, “His precepts will continue to inspire his family, friends, and associates to aspire to accomplish greatness and establish a worthy legacy too.”
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Managing Director, also paid tribute to the departed centenarian, describing him as a role model. Dr. Ogbuku praised Chief Fagbegi for being a successful farmer and visionary who prioritized education as a solution to poverty. He assured that with one of Chief Fagbegi’s children serving as an Executive Director in NDDC, Ondo State would receive its due share of the commission’s programs and projects.
In response, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to the NDDC for their support during the funeral ceremonies. He highlighted Pa Williams’ positive impact on numerous lives and the remarkable milestones achieved throughout his lifetime. Hon. Abegunde also thanked friends and associates for their presence, emphasizing the strength and comfort it provided the grieving family.
The burial ceremony attracted numerous dignitaries, including the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade. Pius Ughakpoteni, Director of Corporate Affairs, released this statement on December 16, 2023.
