The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has presented its 2024 budget with a strong emphasis on completing legacy projects across the Niger Delta. The budget, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope,” aligns with the Federal Government’s economic objectives and prioritizes sustainable infrastructure development and regional transformation.
Fasttrack News gathered that the NDDC plans to raise ₦1 trillion through development and commercial banks to fund over 1,000 ongoing projects. These include roads, bridges, electricity projects, hospitals, schools, and shore protection initiatives. This ambitious funding strategy aims to address the inflationary pressures affecting project delivery timelines while leveraging public-private partnerships for additional capital.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC’s Managing Director, emphasized the importance of robust financial mechanisms to address the region’s unique challenges. He noted that timely investments in critical infrastructure are pivotal to achieving sustainable development goals and supporting the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Commission also highlighted its achievements in 2024, including the completion of over 92 infrastructure projects worth ₦84 billion, such as roads and electricity installations, across its mandate areas. The leadership reiterated its commitment to delivering transformative and inclusive development for the Niger Delta, spanning both physical infrastructure and human capital development
