The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has introduced a new initiative called HOPE (Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement) aimed at empowering the youth of the Niger Delta region. Through strategic partnerships and skill development, HOPE aims to create 1,000 jobs per state, addressing the demands for empowerment and employment expressed by the region’s youths.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the MD/CEO of NDDC, spoke at the launch of project HOPE and emphasized its significance in transforming the lives of the region’s youth. He encouraged every youth in the Niger Delta to register for the program, emphasizing its holistic and sustainable approach to youth empowerment.
HOPE is a response to the recent uprising of the region’s youth, and the NDDC held interactive forums to understand their needs and recommendations. The initiative will develop a comprehensive digital repository of information about the youth, facilitating data-driven planning and the formulation of impactful policies and programs.
Mr. Charles Ogunmola, the Executive Director of Projects, outlined HOPE’s implementation strategy, which involves the development of a digital platform for data collection and policy formation. The initiative will also focus on skill development, collaboration with local and international organizations, and promoting sustainable development.
Dr. Ogbuku and Mr. Ogunmola encouraged the youth to register their skills and interests on the HOPE website, assuring them of suitable job opportunities through the initiative. They also called on the public and private sectors to support HOPE by providing employment opportunities for the youth.
HOPE is envisioned as a transformative initiative that will bring peace and prosperity to the Niger Delta region. By understanding the skills and aspirations of the youth and promptly addressing youth unemployment, HOPE aims to change the narrative of the region and foster a positive future.
