The Supreme Egbesu Freedom Fighters of Niger Delta (SEFFND), a militant group in the Niger Delta region, has issued a warning to Igbo groups to cease their attacks on Niger Delta leader and freedom fighter, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari. The group specifically mentioned the Ibo Lawyers Association (ILA), the Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, and the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) in their warning.
In a joint statement released in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the leader of the militant group, Agadagba I (also known as River Don), along with other commanders, expressed their displeasure with the attacks on Alhaji Dokubo-Asari by these Igbo groups. They emphasized that they would not tolerate any further insults, blackmail, or false accusations directed at Dokubo-Asari.
The group highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the South-East region caused by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN). They criticized the Igbo groups for targeting Dokubo-Asari while the South-East has been facing issues of killing and kidnapping.
The SEFFND warned the Ibo Lawyers Association, HURIWA, and other concerned groups to stop making provocative and inciting statements against Alhaji Dokubo-Asari, whom they referred to as a respected traditional title holder and a pan-Nigerian leader. They also called on security agencies to monitor these groups, claiming that the situation could escalate similarly to how the IPoB and ESN groups emerged.
The warning from the Niger Delta militant group reflects their concern over the attacks on their leader and highlights the complex dynamics between different ethnic and regional groups in Nigeria.
