In a remarkable feat, Nigeria has catapulted 14 places in the latest FIFA Ranking, solidifying its position as the third-best team in Africa, surpassing both AFCON champions Cote d’Ivoire and Erling Haaland’s Norway.
The Super Eagles have soared to new heights, now standing at 28th in the world, according to the recent FIFA World Ranking update.
Nigeria’s impressive rise comes on the heels of their commendable performance in the Cote d’Ivoire tournament. Despite a heart-wrenching 2-1 loss to the host nation in the highly anticipated final, Nigeria’s national team, led by Jose Peseiro, garnered widespread admiration for their stellar performance throughout the competition. Their journey, though ending in a narrow miss for a fourth title, captured the attention of fans worldwide.
This ascent from 42nd to 28th in the world marks the highest jump for the Super Eagles in over a decade, echoing their position in May 2013.
Currently, Nigeria sits just behind Morocco, who climbed one spot to 12th, and Senegal, ranking 17th after a three-place advancement.
In other sections of the ranking, Nigeria has surpassed Erling Haaland’s Norway, positioned at 46th globally, as well as Cote d’Ivoire, the reigning African champions, who climbed ten places to secure the 39th spot.
The Super Eagles’ impressive surge in the FIFA Rankings not only reflects their recent performances but also underscores the growing prowess of African football on the global stage.
