In a series of successful security operations, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted simultaneous airstrikes against criminal elements in different regions. The operations aimed to target and neutralize various threats to security and stability in the country.
The Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, announced these operations in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. According to Gabkwet, the airstrikes were carried out in response to ongoing criminal activities that have been affecting different areas.
In the Niger Delta Region, the NAF conducted airstrikes to counter the activities of oil thieves, which have been detrimental to both the environment and the nation’s oil output. Air interdiction missions were carried out by NAF aircraft under Operation Delta Safe. These targeted an illegal refining site located southwest of Bille, a coastal town in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. The airstrikes aimed to disrupt and deter the activities of oil thieves in the region.
Additionally, airstrikes were carried out against a known Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp in Orsumoghu, located in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State. The operation was prompted by intelligence indicating that IPOB elements were gathering in makeshift camps, with plans for an imminent attack on innocent citizens. The NAF successfully engaged the camp, preventing the planned attack and neutralizing the threat.
In another operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai targeted a location approximately 1.5km East of Arra, a former terrorists’ hideout near the Sambisa Forest. The area had been cleared of terrorist activities about six months prior, but intelligence indicated that terrorists were regrouping at the location. The successful airstrikes were launched to degrade their capabilities and prevent them from using the location as a staging point for attacks on friendly forces and civilians.
Footage of the aftermath of the airstrikes revealed successful outcomes, including the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of structures. The remaining terrorists were observed fleeing the area in disarray, demonstrating a significant degradation in their ability to launch attacks on security forces and innocent civilians.
