In a tragic incident, Captain Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, a serving officer in the Nigerian Army, has reportedly taken his own life in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The lifeless body of Captain Bazza, who recently became a father, was discovered hanging from a tree in a bush on Saturday night, according to a family member.
Speaking to SaharaReporters on Sunday, a relative of the deceased soldier expressed shock over the incident, describing it as ‘mysterious and suspicious.’ The family source emphasized that the cause of Captain Bazza’s death remains uncertain, as he did not leave behind any suicide note for his wife, elder sister, or any other family member.
The family source raised questions about the circumstances, stating, “How can a Captain in the army hang himself with a mosquito net that he used to sleep? He didn’t have any reason to kill himself. Did he kill somebody? No! So why would he just kill himself? He lost his tent mate under mysterious circumstances when he was in Yobe.”
Captain Bazza, who got married in 2017 and recently welcomed a son, had reportedly faced a challenging situation in the past when his tent mate passed away under mysterious circumstances in Yobe.
The family source revealed that the Nigerian Army headquarters has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of Captain Bazza’s death. The family is awaiting the outcome of the investigation, as they remain unaware of any note left by the deceased.
“We lost this young man (my brother-in-law), Captain Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, last night. He committed suicide in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. But the army headquarters is investigating the real cause of his death. They claimed his body was found hanging in the bush. No note was given to either his wife or any member of his family; the family is not aware that he left any note behind,” the family source stated.
