Two Nigerian individuals, Samuel Ogoshi (22) and Samson Ogoshi (20) from Lagos, have been extradited to the United States to face prosecution for their involvement in sexually extorting numerous young men and teenage boys across the country. The extradition follows their indictment in May 2023, for a series of crimes, including the death of a 17-year-old victim.
U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Mark Totten, expressed shock at the severity of the case, emphasizing the commitment of law enforcement to pursue criminals involved in sextortion across borders. Samuel Ogoshi was also charged with causing the death of Jordan DeMay, a 17-year-old victim from Michigan, who tragically took his own life.
FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge of Michigan, Devin J. Kowalski, highlighted the global crisis of financial sextortion and reiterated the FBI’s determination to collaborate with international partners to prevent young individuals from becoming victims of this heinous crime.
The indictment against Samuel and Samson Ogoshi includes charges related to sexual exploitation, conspiracy to sexually exploit minors, conspiracy to distribute child pornography, and conspiracy to commit online stalking. The defendants allegedly posed as young women on hacked social media accounts to engage victims in sexual chats. They then manipulated explicit images of victims to blackmail them, threatening to disclose the images unless money was paid.
The extradition was made possible through collaborative efforts between the FBI, Nigerian law enforcement, and U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs. The defendants’ initial court appearance is expected to take place in Grand Rapids, where they will face the charges outlined in the indictment.
