The Minister of Tourism in Nigeria, Lola Ade-John, has reportedly been hospitalized in Abuja due to acute poisoning of unknown origins. Family members are said to be concerned about the urgency of efforts to save her life. She was allegedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, after showing symptoms of poisoning.
While the specifics of the substance ingested and the circumstances are not immediately clear, sources suggest that Ade-John has been receiving medical treatment at the facility, including assistance with breathing. Family sources indicated that she had spent four days at the hospital as of the latest reports.
There are alleged disagreements between the Minister’s family and the Ministry regarding the choice of the hospital for her treatment. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ngozi Onwudike, reportedly insisted that Ade-John should not be transferred, citing the public nature of the FMC and the cost-effectiveness for the government. However, the family reportedly disagreed, and no funds were available to move her to a private hospital.
It’s worth noting that Lola Ade-John was recently appointed and sworn in as Minister by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The situation raises concerns about the health and well-being of a public official and the challenges in navigating the healthcare system in Nigeria.
