In a concerted effort to combat criminality, Nigerian troops from the 63 Bde Garrison, under the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted an ongoing Clearance Operation that resulted in the destruction of an enclave belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Asaba, Delta State on Saturday, 22 July 2023. The successful raid operation took place in the early hours of the day at a fortified enclave situated in a forested high ground.
During the encounter, the brave troops engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the IPOB fighters, overpowering them and forcing them to flee their hideout in disarray. One of the fleeing fighters was captured, and a substantial cache of weapons was recovered, including five AK 47 Rifles, three Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifles, one G3 Rifle, and one single-barrel gun. Additionally, the troops seized Live Cartridges, an Electric Saw, Machetes, an Axe, and an IPOB flag.
Following the operation, the troops destroyed the enclave and are now pursuing the fleeing fighters in the forest. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the gallant troops and other security agencies involved in the ongoing operations, urging them to maintain the momentum to restore peace and sanity in the region.
The operation showcases the government’s commitment to tackling criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
