Rauf Aregbesola, the Nigerian Minister of Interior has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, to enable Nigerians in the diaspora to return to Nigeria with their expired International Passports.
Aregbesola made this while addressing a complaint raised by Jamui Kasumu, a Nigerian-American citizen at the Alausa Passport Office during his unscheduled visit to the facility in Lagos on Wednesday, July 13. Kasumu had complained that Nigerian Immigration officers in America and on Delta airline prevented him from coming to Nigeria because of an expired Nigerian passport.
Kasumu stated that he returned to Nigeria after he got a travel certificate he obtained through a relation in Nigeria.
In response, the Minister stated that Nigerians do not need travel certificates to come back home, except for children, whose parents were Nigerians, but their identities were yet to be established according to immigration rules.
“I am using this medium to instruct all Nigeria Immigration Officers World-Wide to accord Nigerian travelers with expired Passport use such passports to return safely back home henceforth,” he said
“I am appealing to you sir that the Immigration should allow Nigerians with expired Passport to come back to their country,” he said.
