Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro, has reportedly applied for the vacant coaching position at Egyptian club Zamalek SC, according to Egyptian website Kooora. The development comes in the wake of Zamalek parting ways with Colombian coach Juan Carlos Osorio due to unsatisfactory results.
Peseiro is one of the coaches who have submitted their CVs for consideration by Zamalek. The Egyptian club is currently in the process of selecting a new coach, and Peseiro is among the names being considered.
A reliable source within Zamalek confirmed Peseiro’s application, stating, “Jose Peseiro is among the names already nominated to lead Zamalek. But he does not enjoy any preference. He is just one name among many CVs on the board of directors’ table.”
While Peseiro’s decision to apply for the coaching position at Zamalek indicates his interest in a new challenge, it may not be well-received by his current employers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The 63-year-old Portuguese coach recently signed a new short-term contract with the NFF in the summer.
Peseiro is currently facing criticism following the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The team is without a victory after two games, with their latest match against the Warriors of Zimbabwe ending in a 1-1 draw.
The situation raises questions about Peseiro’s future with the Super Eagles as he explores potential opportunities in the club coaching sphere. The coming weeks may offer clarity on whether Peseiro will continue leading the Nigerian national team or take on a new role with Zamalek SC.
