Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that the President Ahmed Tinubu-led administration has N431 billion ready to be paid to contractors handling Federal Road projects across the country. He made this announcement during a meeting with contractors in his office, emphasizing that all contractors will need to sign performance contracts to ensure that the constructed roads last for at least 10 years.
The Ministry also intends to focus on dualised roads across the country, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) funding 50% of the contract sum until 2025. The Minister urged contractors to claim their funds and adhere to certain criteria before certificates are signed. He stressed the need for transparency and accountability in road construction projects.
Additionally, Umahi encouraged contractors to embrace concrete technology and ensure that roads are built to meet the required standards. The Minister emphasized that the administration is committed to improving road infrastructure and ensuring that funds are used efficiently in road projects.
